Linda

Hey, Linda! I was thinking about you the other day and how I've pretty much stopped posting here. I am on Facebook... Amber Shepard Peacock. I'd love to "friend" you! I haven't really posted any pictures there lately either, but I'm gonna try to get some up this weekend. Hope you are doing well!

Time flies

Oops... Has it
really been since almost 3 months since I last posted! I've just been so busy and so tired. Seelie still doesn't sleep through the night, in fact most nights he's up 3 or more times. He has been teething badly for most of the last 3 months too, so that hasn't been very fun. He's sweet and happy most of the time, but when his teeth are bothering him he can be very grumpy!

Seelie has 6 teeth now! We went for his "6 month" checkup last tuesday (even though he's 7 months today). He weighed 17 pounds and was 28 inches long. He can roll over onto his stomach, but almost never can get back turned over. He hates being on his stomach so he is not doing so well at learning to crawl. Just within the last 2 weeks Seelie has been working really hard on sitting up. Daily I see progress. Today he was able to sit without much help for a good 30 seconds or so before he would sort of lose balance and tumble to the side. He LOVES to stand up! He can support himself just fine, but of course he doesn't have any balance. His favorite sound is a loud high pitched squeal that he will do over and over again. It really disturbs the cats which makes him even more gleeful so he squeals even more. lol. He also has started babbling even more over the last week or two. Last week he started making a "dadada" sound.

The pictures are from March and then Easter Sunday. He loves to play with his feet and eat his socks. My sister gave us the bunny outfit and I couldn't resist putting him in it for Easter. He was SO cute!

January

Well January went by WAY too quickly. I'm just gonna hit some highlights and hopefully do a better job of keeping up to date in the future... HA I think I've said that before!

Well, I have to go back to December first and say that on Saturday, December 26th I offered Seelie my left breast for the first time in a long time and he actually took it!! I was so excited! He has been taking it with no problem since then. I'm SO happy! I was somewhat concerned about how I would get used to switching back and forth between the two sides, but it hasn't been as hard as I had imagined it might be. Anyway, I think that was probably the best Christmas present that I got this year!! :-) I now only have to pump when I'm at work or away from Seelie for a long time. It is so awesome because I got so much of my time back. I didn't realize how much time I spent pumping until I looked back at my notes recently! I don't know how I had time to do anything else!

Seelie is growing SO fast!! I can't believe that he turned 4 months old this month!! We went to his 3 month checkup on the 20th. He was 26 inches long and 14lbs 12oz. He is in the 97 percentile for height and the 50% percentile for weight. So he is long and lean! :-) The doctor said that we can start working on solids between now and his 6 month checkup. I do want to start him on them, but we are not in any hurry.

Seelie has two teeth already! They are on the bottom. They poked through on December 28th. He didn't seem really bothered at all before they actually poked through the gums, but for about a week and a half afterward he was fussier than usual. We think he is still teething some and working on the top two, but they are not showing any signs of poking through yet. He drools a lot though and sticks EVERYTHING in his mouth!

He rolled over onto his tummy the night of January 8th by himself in his sleep for the first time. It was sometime between 2am and 3am. I woke to him crying more than normal and found him on his tummy. He is not fond of tummy time. Just this past week he seems to be mastering the rolling from back to tummy better. He had not done it again at home since the 8th until Wednesday (the 27th) when he rolled over in his sleep again. The next morning I told the lady at daycare and she said he's been doing it there. Then Thursday night I put him on a blanket in the kitchen for a little naked time and he rolled over several times onto his tummy. Today he was doing it frequently too. Now he just needs to figure out how to roll from his tummy to his back because he gets way too aggravated when he finds himself on his stomach.

Seelie also loves sitting up now. He can't sit on his own yet, but he likes for you to sit him on your lap while you are holding him. I also went out and bought him a bumbo seat on New Year's Day. He slumps a little in it, but he likes it. I am sitting him up in the bath tub now also. He is so cute when he sits up and plays! I think it won't be long before he starts holding himself steady when sitting!

Well, that is all the exciting things I can think of right now. I must do better at this!! I cannot wait another 2 months before posting again! Gonna work on that.

Seelie's first Christmas, a little late...

Ok, so I started this post way back on December 27th, but wasn't able to finish it for some reason and then just never got back to it. So I'm finally finishing it. Then I will start a new post with some of the highlights of what has happened in January :-)

We had a wonderful Christmas! We had 4 separate gatherings plus our own gift exchange w/ just Tony, Seelie, and I. It was busy, but loads of fun! Seelie did great and seems to really enjoy the excitement of large crowds. He even napped for an hour during our big gathering w/ nearly 30 people in the room.

Thursday night, Christmas Eve, was our "immediate" family gathering at my sister, Leila's, house. We had my parents, my sisters, Leila's best friend - Austin, my mom's sister, her son, and her grandson. It was a nice gathering. We had lasagna for dinner which has become a tradition. Then we exchanged gifts, then most of us played some Rock Band on Leila's Wii. She got DJ Hero for Christmas and checked it out, but most of us weren't brave enough to try it. It looks pretty complicated. Rock band is a lot of fun though. At the end I was holding Seelie and singing. He started making noises too like he was singing along. It was So cute! We left her house about 9pm and Seelie went to sleep about 10pm that night. I thought that he might go to sleep at her house, but he wasn't having any of that.

Christmas morning Tony, Seelie and I exchanged our gifts to each other and did Santa. We ended up ordering from Amazon at the last minute because we couldn't decide if we were getting a big item or not and how much to spend on smaller things. We ended up deciding that after the first of the year we are getting a King size bedroom set but that we could also get each other some good Christmas gifts. I got a Wii fit and Shaun White Snowboarding for our Wii. I also got Super Baby Food (for making Seelie's baby food), Absolutely Fabulous seasons 1-3, and a puzzle mat that rolls the puzzle and stores it for later. Tony got a game "Arkham Horror" that he Really wanted plus several expansions for it. He also got a Mandolin slicer, Alton Brown Good Eats episodes, and a Grateful Dead shirt. Seelie got a LeapFrog learning table and one of those classic stacking toys w/ the circles on the post that get smaller as they go up. We enjoyed our family time Christmas morning. Seelie laid on the floor and watched mommy and daddy open gifts and just was happy to check everything out.

Then around 1pm we hosted my extended family gathering. This includes my grandparents, aunt & uncle, cousin and her girls (one was sick so her husband stayed home w/ her), grandma's nephew and his ex wife (don't ask), their daughter and her boyfriend and their daughter (confused yet?), my parents, sisters, one boyfriend, one best friend, Tony's mom, Tony's best friend and his 2 girls, my mom's aunt, her son, and her grandson. I think that's everybody. That's 27 people not including Seelie! It just keeps getting bigger every year, but it is a lot of fun. We had a huge lunch of mostly traditional Christmasy foods. Then we did the big gift exchange which is always complete madness. We do a name swap for the adults and then most people buy for each of the children. Seelie got some nice toys. He got a stuffed dog that has all sorts of things he does when you squeeze various parts of his body. Seelie also got a crinkly book that he can chew on, a first year ornament from My grandma, and some several other toys.

OK... that is pretty much where I stopped before. So the rest of this post isn't going to be quite as detailed, but I still want to give some info on our other gatherings.

Saturday was our gathering with Tony's family. That consisted of Tony's mom, brother, his wife, Tony's uncle (who his brother and SIL live with now), Tony's best friend and his two girls, a couple who are close family friends, and one of Tony's old roommates. They came over about lunch time and we had heavy finger foods. We had chicken fingers, Shoe Pie (BF's specialty - not really a finger food though), bagels w/ cream cheese, veggie tray, meatballs, espresso brownies, and a chocolate cake. We ended up buying a lot of the food for this gathering, but that makes our life so much easier since we have so much going on. The brownies and cake were bought from an old friend who now bakes for a living. They were REALLY good! Anyway, we had a really good time. This year went a lot better than last year also. All gifts were well received ;-) (this was the one w/ the big gift snafu last year) Seelie had a good time too. He really seems to enjoy the festivities.

Sunday we had our final gathering. We took Tony's brother and sister in law with us out to see Tony's dad and stepmom. It was a very small gathering, but very nice. We had a nice lunch and Seelie got to wear the outfit that they had given him. Tony's dad gave him an ice cream maker and he has been making good use of it since then :-)

It was a very busy and whirlwind Christmas, but very enjoyable. I love Christmas and getting to spend it with all of our wonderful family and friends! I can't imagine it any other way. I can't wait until next year when Seelie will be a little bit more aware of what is actually going on!

Well, I go back to work on the 14th which is only a little over a week away. I'm a little nervous about how our morning routine iStas going to work, but I'm sure we will work it out. Next week I will begin taking Seelie to daycare. I think he will go everyday, but we will work up the amount of time that he stays each day.

Today I am babysitting my cousin's 14 month old for about 5 hours. She will be here in about 30 minutes. I'm a little nervous about handling a 14 month old and a newborn but I'm sure we will manage. I called my sister and asked her if she will come over for part of the time to help me, so I feel better knowing that I won't be completely on my own. I figure this will be good practice for having two little ones. Yikes!

We had a good Thanksgiving at my grandparent's house. There were 26 people total! It was nice though and not too crazy. Seelie did really well. He really likes looking at new surroundings and new people. Tony's best friend came to Thanksgiving dinner and was able to hold Seelie and get him to fall asleep. That was super sweet. Seelie really didn't fuss during Thanksgiving except when we tried to get him to take a bottle. lol. He did not want that bottle. I ended up nursing him and he was fine. The only bad thing about that was I sat between my mom and my sister and they were being loud and woke him up when he finished eating. It wasn't a big deal though.

I took Seelie to meet Santa Claus on Tuesday! They have free photos w/ Santa at the Bass Pro Shop so we went there. It was really cute!! My youngest sister had given us a Santa outfit for Seelie so I decided that he should wear that for his picture. He was so cute as a mini Santa. The Santa there had a really nice suit on also. Seelie did really well for his picture too! I'm gonna upload them if I have time.

Seelie continues to sleep pretty well at night. He most commonly sleeps for about a 6.5 hour stretch first and then does 2 - 3 hours after that. The last two nights he has slept for 8 hours on that first stretch. I'd really like it if he would keep that up but we'll see. He got up at 7am this morning and usually he will eat and then go right back to sleep, but didn't. So he is passed out on the floor now ;-) (It's almost 9am - not sure why it says I post these at other weird hours)

We put up our Christmas tree and decorations on this past Saturday. It was fun and Seelie did really well. He laid on his playmat downstairs with us while we decorated. He played and chilled the whole time. Tony's best friend and his daughter came over and helped us. That was nice too. We played Christmas music and had meatballs to add to the festivities. I can't wait until Seelie is actually old enough to enjoy the holiday traditions and fun!

K, gonna try to get some pictures up!

Great Saturday

We had a really great day today. Seelie and I got up pretty early and slept on the couch together for about an hour which was nice and cuddly. Then he was content to lay on the floor and chill/nap for awhile. I enjoyed goofing off and drinking some coffee. We had a nice relaxed morning.

Then we got ready and about Noon we took Seelie over to my parent's house so that my mom could watch him awhile. Tony and I went out for brunch at J. Christopher's which is our favorite new place in town to eat. We had a nice leisurely time and enjoyed some time alone as a couple. Then Seelie was still doing fine w/ my mom so we came home to hang out and do some chores. I was able to get the bathrooms cleaned. I had been wanting to do that, but it is harder to navigate with Seelie around.

Seelie did really well with my mom. She said that he slept a good bit and then played in the pack n play for awhile. She called about 2:40 and he still had not eaten anything though. She said he had not been fussy at all and didn't seem to want the bottle when she had offered it earlier. I told her that he really did need to eat though because I fed him last at 10am. So she said she would feed him and then I could wait and come get him in a little bit. Tony and I did some more cleaning and hung out a bit. Then I went and picked Seelie up just before 4pm. Mom said that she offered him the bottle just after she hung up with me and that he ate all 4 oz that I had given her without fussing at all. He was chilling when I got there. Mom was holding him in her lap and he didn't immediately start fussing wanting me. I was really glad to see that he did so well with mom. This was our first time leaving him with anyone else. I was nervous about how he might respond to being without Tony or I. I also wasn't sure how he would do w/ the bottle since it has been so hit or miss. I'm glad it seemed to go well.

When we got home he wanted to nurse immediately. He did so for about 30 minutes and then was happy and wanted to play. He played on his playmat for awhile. Then I gave him his bath and fed him again. He only ate for about 8 minutes, which can be enough, but isn't a lot. Then he passed out. He stayed asleep for awhile so I decided to put him down in his crib. I usually swaddle him for his long sleeps at night, but he had just been bathed and was wearing his warm footed pjs. So I just put him down in that. I really expected him to wake up pretty much right away, but he's been in there for almost 2 hours now and has not woken up yet. Or should I say he hasn't cried yet. I go to the door periodically and I can hear him in there sucking his fingers, but he could be asleep or awake and do that. I'm a little bit nervous though because I really didn't/don't think he'll be out for his long sleep, but I'm not sure when he'll wake up. I don't know if I should go to bed or stay up and wait him out.

Oh, well. I had a nice day and really enjoyed reconnecting w/ my wonderful hubby! Tony's friends asked at the last minute if they could come over this evening and we agreed. So he is hanging out with them downstairs. I considered actually trying to hang out w/ them also since Seelie went down so early, but they are actually playing some new games tonight. I don't want to be in the middle of a game and have to come tend to Seelie. I figure that I could enjoy some "me time" instead.

Oh, also, Seelie did pretty good with his play time this morning. I put him on his tummy some which he does not like. He is getting a really flat head on his left side so I'm trying to work on getting him off of it some. He didn't want to lay on his tummy though so I just tried turning him on his right side and laying him where the only way to see his toys was to look that way. He stayed on his right side for a minute or two and then rolled back onto his back, but he kept his head turned toward the right. It was only for a few minutes total, but every little bit counts.

Yesterday we went to visit one of my coworkers. She is out on sick leave because of a back surgery. We had a nice long visit. Seelie was really good the whole time. He fussed just a little, but I think it was due to gas. I had taken a bottle with us and tried to give it to him, but he didn't want to take it. We were there for about an hour and a half. Then we went to Walmart for a little bit. Mostly I wanted to get him to take the bottle, because I know that I have to work harder on getting him used to it. (I'm guilty of not attempting it everyday like I said I would) Anyway, he was content and chilling in his stroller in the Walmart, but I knew that it had been awhile since he had eaten. I offered him the bottle while we were strolling around. He took it reluctantly at first and then actually started sucking normally on it. He took about 1.5 oz. Of course, once we got home he was ready to nurse ;-) At least he took it though.
